“Entreprise à mission” since 2022
We have incorporated in the company’s governing documents a specific mission called “raison d’être” that mirrors our commitments. In doing so, we are joining the first 1000 or so “entreprises à mission” in France, and the very first hotel chain.
To materialize this mission, social and environmental goals have also been determined and incorportated into the company’s governing documents:
– Improve the environmental performance of our facilities through eco-design, sustainable use of resources and customer awareness;
– Promote a participative and inclusive social model based on progress, meritocracy, solidarity and fulfillment;
– Promote a more virtuous tourism by contributing to local development.
Our 4-step approach
MEASURE
Implementing key environmental and social performance indicators, while regularly evaluating our initiatives and adjusting them according to the results obtained.
TEST
Test our actions to see if they can be deployed in all our activities, and if they are relevant to our development.
PRIORITIZE
Choose our battles and put our energy where we can have a real impact.
PERSONALIZE
The steps taken must be long- and medium-term. You need to recognize that you can make mistakes and be unafraid to try again.
Moving forward together with real actions
We strongly believe in the necessity and usefulness of involving all our stakeholders in our approach: employees, suppliers and partners, in a community vision and in order to maximize our positive impact and increase our chances of success.
In our residences
At Edgar Suites, we transform ageing former offices or hotels into hotel residences. By restoring value to real estate assets at the end of their useful life, we practice urban recycling and help to preserve our cities’ real estate heritage.
On certain projects under construction, we have strict specifications, and we encourage and help our stakeholders to comply with reference labels:
– BREEAM: international certification standard for assessing the environmental quality and sustainability of buildings.
– BBCA (Bâtiment Bas Carbone): label certifying a building’s carbon footprint performance.
In our existing residences, we have embarked on a labeling process to have our establishments recognized and certified Green Key, the first ecolabel for tourist accommodation and restaurants in France and internationally (Green Key International).
In practical terms? In our Urban Suites :
- No single-use plastic,
- Energy saving (LED bulb),
- Awareness campaigns for travelers on how to sort their waste, reduce their water and energy consumption, and encourage them to eat locally (equipped kitchen, no catering service),
- Reuse (second-hand furniture) and rehabilitation of hotel equipment.
In our company
Edgar Suites is in the process of obtaining B corp certification. This international movement brings together over 5,000 companies of all sizes and in all sectors in 74 countries, including over 200 in France. It’s a highly demanding label that guides us in the implementation of our actions at every level of the company.
At Edgar Suites, we don’t have a dedicated ESG team, as we have chosen to involve all our employees in the ESG process.
To date, here are a few actions already in place:
- systematic training of all new employees in eco-gestures and ESG best practices,
- a committed HR policy: parity respected at all qualification levels, benefits such as 100% coverage of the employer’s health insurance and 100% salary maintenance for second-parent leave,
- 4 reference documents to guide our activities :
1) A Charter of commitments and expectations for our suppliers;
2) An internal guide to responsible purchasing for employees;
3) a Purchasing Repository which lists the products referenced by purchasing family;
4) an Code of conduct defining good corporate practice.
Creating connections with local towns and associations
Contributing to local development also means forging links with local operators such as town halls and associations. Through our business, we aim to create local opportunities and be responsive to local needs.
Before starting any real estate project, we invite neighboring condominiums to an information meeting to explain our project and address any concerns they may have. In addition to explaining the architectural gesture and our efforts to integrate ourselves into neighborhood life, we’re offering neighbors a promotional code with a 10% discount on the cost of their stay.
We are also forging partnerships with other local and national players, through associations and sponsorship. Here are two examples:
We are partners of the association Vacances & Familles which offers solutions to promote access to holidays for all, especially families. Renewed in 2023, the partnership covers 250 overnight stays worth a total donation of €38,000.
In the spring of 2023, we organized a temporary art exhibition in partnership with Levallois-Perret town council and 2 art promotion associations to enhance an empty office building on which work had not yet begun. The partnership involves a sponsorship worth €35,000.
